Lighting Up Your Night!

By Jason Sensenig

Sales Associate at Tussey Mtn. Mulch Landscape Center

Do you ever have friends over for an evening party on beautiful, warm, summer evenings? Did you ever have to crowd inside a hot house when the sun started sinking in the west to finish your party because the darkness overtook you? Imagine sitting around and having a good time with you friends out on your patio or deck. The western sky begins to turn from blue, to orange, and as the sun keeps setting, it turns into a beautiful red glow. As you sit there watching the sunset, the warm glow of your landscape lighting comes to life. Let the party begin! Now your party is no longer cut short because the dark has overtaken you. Instead of crowding in a hot house, you can continue to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors in a whole new way.

With the busy lifestyle that we seem to have these days, the evenings are the only times that we get to sit out and enjoy our landscaping. Why not get more out of the money you spent on landscaping by installing some landscape lighting around the house and patio area? Not only will it give you more time to enjoy your vacation at home, but it will give your house a whole new “look” as the soft lights light up the side of your house, trees, bushes, and cast a soft, warm glow on your patio and walkways.

Landscape lighting may sound like a lot of work and maintenance to keep all those fixtures working out in the harsh elements, but with the new LED lighting, it cuts back on those problems immensely. LED lighting is simple to install, so you as a homeowner can easily do it yourself instead of paying the extra money to have a contractor come in and install if for you.

LED lighting also saves you money from year to year. The LED lights last about 10 times longer than the standard halogen bulbs. No longer do you have to be out there changing bulbs every year. At the same time, LED lights save you money on your electric bill.  In comparison to standard halogen bulbs, LED lights use approximately 80-90% less electricity. Talk about savings!

Stop in at Tussey Mtn Mulch Landcape Center to see what all landscape lighting is available for you. We would love to show your around. We have different lines of landscape lighting to meet your tastes and your budget. You can also go on our web site,, to check out our different products.              We here at Tussey Mtn Mulch Landscape Center are dedicated to helping you get the most enjoyment out of you landscaping projects. As always, our mission statement is, “Quality Products and Prompt Courteous Service”. We look forward to seeing you this year.

Display Renovations- Update #2

Here we are a month later, and we are still working on redoing our displays! The inclement weather in March slowed us up somewhat, but we still managed to make quite a bit of progress during that time. Here are some updated photos of what’s been happening at Tussey Mtn. Mulch in the last number of weeks.

Our new Artisan Pergola.

This is a new style in our pergola line. It has more of a rustic, yet refined, look.

Our new outdoor kitchen, complete with a pizza oven, in the making.

We will be placing a pavilion over it as well.

 Our new 8′ x 11′ Dragonfly Pond

Going through and organizing our garden supplies order.

Make sure you stop by to check out our new products!

Getting started on the big pond!

 The big pond almost finished!

I think we are all looking forward to having warmer weather in the near future! Make sure that you put “Checking out Tussey Mtn. Mulch’s new displays” on your list of things to do! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Discover Gardening-A Family Activity

By: Kyle B Brown

You find yourself stuck with nothing to do, children restless while waiting for an activity to consume them.  You could just stick a video game system or a television in front of them, but what about a change?   Why not do something that the whole family will love and take satisfaction in for a long time to come?  Why not get the kids outdoors, teach them about nature, and create something beautiful.  The activity I am talking about is gardening.

Gardening is an activity that the whole family can participate in.  It’s not something that is going to require expensive tickets or fancy electronics to complete.  Grab a shovel, some eager hands to help, some plant material, and a useable area and you have everything you need to spend a Saturday afternoon with the entire family.  Gardening is a much cheaper alternative to most Saturday afternoon activities and will provide hours of good clean, well, slightly dirty fun.  It also doesn’t require an instruction manual, just read the plant labels or seed packets and you will find everything you need to know.  Where to plant, how deep to plant, how big the plant will get, and what other care practices you will need to provide will all be there right before your eyes.

Gardening will also be fun.  Pull the children away from the television and get them moving.  Gardening will teach your children about plants, hard work, and responsibility.  However, make it fun for them, let them pick what to plant, bring them out to Tussey Mtn Mulch and allow them to choose what they like.  This will allow them to stay interested and develop their own green thumb.  The children will stay much more enthusiastic and involved if they are working with something they enjoy.  Also, shrug off the natural reaction to keep the children clean and let them dive right into the soil and get their hands dirty.  What child doesn’t want to be covered in dirt up to their necks and not get in trouble for it?  A child will love getting dressed up in worn-out clothes and being allowed to help their parents with such a project.  A hands-on project will keep everyone’s attention; have them dig planting holes, plant flowers, and pull weeds.  Let the children create something they can be proud of every time they walk by the garden.

The best part of gardening as a family will be the satisfaction.  When you see something grow that you planted with your own hands, your face will light up.  Seeing this reaction from a child will make all the hard work that was involved worth it.  By using perennials, shrubs, and trees, you and your family can watch the plants grow just as the small hands that helped plant them grow.

Get outside, get the family involved, and get gardening.  Allow the kids to get their hands dirty and be filled with wonderment, excitement, and satisfaction. Bring your children to Tussey Mountain Mulch Landscape Center where they can enjoy walking through our many displays, visit our fish tanks, and pick out everything you and your family will need to create something beautiful at home.
